FAQ

Q: What driver's license do I need to drive in Guam?

If you have a valid license from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan or one of the other countries named in Guam law, you can drive for up to 30 days after you arrive without an International Driving Permit. A license from a U.S. state or territory is valid for up to 90 days. If your license was issued somewhere else, the allowed period may be different, so please check before your trip. Please bring your original driver's license. Photocopies and photos of your license are not accepted.

Q: How old do I have to be to rent a car in Guam?

In Guam, you can rent a car once you're 18 or older. Some rental companies charge a "young driver surcharge" to renters aged 21-24. At TAICO Rent-A-Car Guam, there are no age-based fees at all as long as you're 18 or older. When you book and when you come in to pick up the car, please have the main driver's (the contract holder's) original, valid driver's license ready.

Q: Do you charge extra based on age?

No. If you're 18 or older, there are no extra charges based on your age. Many rental companies add a "young driver surcharge" for renters aged 21-24, but TAICO Rent-A-Car Guam has no age-based surcharge of any kind. Renters who are 18 or 19 pay the same rates as everyone else.

Q: What do I need to rent a car?

Please bring the driver's license of the person who made the booking (the driver), a credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover or Diners) and your passport. Please pay with the driver's credit card. If the driver doesn't have a credit card, you can pay with a card in someone else's name, but an additional driver fee applies. If the driver and the person paying are different people, we'll need to see both of their passports. We don't accept debit cards or prepaid credit cards. If no one in your group has a credit card, see how to rent with cash.

Q: Can I rent without a credit card?

Yes, but only if you add all three coverage options, CDW, ZDW and NOC, and leave a $150 deposit. Approximate coverage rates: CDW is $17.00-$22.00 per 24 hours depending on the vehicle class, ZDW is $10.00 per 24 hours, and NOC is $7.00 per 24 hours.

Q: What's included in the rental rate?

Except for some package plans, your rental rate includes the car itself and auto liability insurance (bodily injury and property damage). Any other coverage is optional.

Q: Are there any rules for installing a child seat?

Child seats can be installed in the back seat only. Guam law requires children to ride in a seat that fits their age and weight. We offer three types: an Infant Seat (ages 0-1 or up to 9kg), a Child Seat (ages 1-4 or 9-18kg) and a Booster Seat (ages 4-11 and 144cm or shorter). Each one is $5.00 per 24 hours. *You'll need to install the seat yourself, and please return it to the counter when you bring the car back. How many seats fit depends on the vehicle class, so check our Car Models & Rates page for details.

Q: Is gas included in the rental rate?

Except for some package plans, you pay for your own gas. Cars are rented with a full tank, and we ask that you return them full. If the tank wasn't full when you picked up the car, just refill it to the level it was at pickup. If you can't refuel or the tank is short, the fuel will be charged at our standard rates. This includes a service fee and costs quite a bit more, so we recommend filling up yourself before you return the car. Most gas stations in Guam are self-service. Our How to Refuel page walks you through every step, from choosing a pump to paying.

Q: Do you offer hotel or airport pickup?

We run a free shuttle between hotels in the Tumon-Tamuning area and our Main Office. We don't offer airport pickup, but our Main Office is only about 1.8 miles (2.8km) from Guam Airport. It's roughly a 10-minute taxi ride, and the fare is usually around $20. In Guam, it's customary to tip the driver about 10-15% of the fare. If you come from the airport by taxi, we'll give you $15 cashback on your rental. Just show your taxi receipt at the counter when you pay. Please note that we can't give the cashback without a receipt. After you return the car, we'll give you a free ride to the airport or your hotel.

Q: Can you deliver the rental car to my hotel?

We don't deliver cars to hotels. All rental paperwork is done at our Main Office. If you're staying in the Tumon-Tamuning area, you can take our free shuttle between your hotel and the Main Office.
